The MAC Budapest is a Hungarian ice hockey club in Budapest , in the since 2018 Slovakian Extraliga is active. The origins of the club go back to the 1960s, when a department for ice hockey was founded at the Budapest Sports School KSI.

The association's roots go back to 1960. In 1963 an ice hockey section was founded at the Central Sports School Budapest Központi Sportiskolát (KSI), which was dedicated to the education of children and young people. 1985 adult team was launched, which the game operation of the major league Hungary, OB I , took part. In 1987 the ice hockey section was delegated by the KSI to the Liget SE , two years later by the Liget SE to the Népstadion Szabadidő Egyesületként (NSZE or NSzE).

In 1993 NSzE merged with one of the oldest sports clubs in Hungary, the Magyar Athletikai Club . The latter was founded in 1875, dissolved in 1945 for political reasons and revived in 1988. From 1993 onwards, the club's teams played as the MAC Népstadion . At the beginning of the 1990s he played continuously in Hungary's highest ice hockey league, and teams of all ages took part in the game. In 1995, he was relegated to the second division, before being promoted back to OB I in 1999. In 2002 another relegation to the second division followed.

In 2011, the ice hockey section broke away from the main club and has since played as MAC Budapest and MAC Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia (youngsters). In 2013, the first team was relegated from the second to the third division, so that the club then concentrated on the junior division: Among other things, the U20 juniors took part in the Erste Bank Young Stars League from 2012 and the U18 juniors from 2013 participated in the Erste Bank Juniors League .

In 2015, a men's team was again provided, which took part in the transnational MOL league . There she was able to reach the final straight away, but where she lost with 0: 4 victories Miskolci Jegesmedvék JSE .

In spring 2016, the club applied for admission to the multinational Erste Bank Eishockey Liga , but was ultimately not accepted.

In January 2017, MAC Budapest won the Hungarian Cup competition, the first men's trophy in the club's history. In the 2017/18 season, the men's team from MAC also celebrated its first national championship title. For the following season 2018/19 , the club moved together with DVTK Jegesmedvék to the Slovakian extra league .

Since the 2017/18 season, the club has also been participating in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga with a women's team. He also formed a syndicate with the Ferencvárosi TC in the Elite Women's Hockey League in the 2018/19 season and came in seventh.
