Gergely Majoross ( Hungarian Majoross Gergely ; born May 9, 1979 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian ice hockey player and current coach , who was under contract with Alba Volán Székesfehérvár for most of his career . Since 2015 he has been the head coach of MAC Budapest in the MOL league . He has also been the assistant coach of the Hungarian national team since 2014 .
Career
Gergely Majoross began his career as a hockey player in the youth of the Ferencvárosi TC , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Hungarian ice hockey league in 1996 and with whom he became Hungarian champion in 1997 . After spending the 1997/98 season with the Utah Junior Grizzlies in the Western States Hockey League , he returned to his home club for a year. In 1998 he signed a contract with Alba Volán Székesfehérvár , where he initially played in parallel in the Interliga and the Hungarian ice hockey league. In 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 he was Hungarian champion with Alba Volán and cup winner in 2000, 2005 and 2007 . He won the Interliga with the club in 2003 and 2007. After the Interliga was dissolved in 2007, he played the 2007/08 season with his club in the Austrian ice hockey league . In 2008 he returned to his hometown and played the following two years for the Budapest Stars in the Hungarian league and the multinational MOL league . After winning the MOL league with the Stars in 2010, he returned to his home club in Ferencváros, but switched to Miskolci Jegesmedvék JSE in December 2010 , where he ended his career in 2011.
International
For Hungary, Majoross took part in the junior division of the U18 B European Championships in 1996 and 1997 and the U20 B World Cup in 1999 .
In the senior division, he played with the Hungarian national team at the 1999 World Cup . After switching to the current division system, he took part in the World Championships in Division I in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 and 2008 as well as in the 2009 World Championships , when the Magyars competed first-class for the first time in 70 years. He also played for his country in the qualifications for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver .
Coaching
After his playing career, Majoross began to work as a coach. Initially as an assistant coach in the youth division of the Hungarian Association, he has been the assistant coach of the men's national team since the 2014 World Cup . At club level, he was initially a junior coach at MAC Budapest . After he was head coach of DVTK Jegesmedvék in the MOL league in 2014/15 , he returned to MAC and has been head coach of the MOL league team there ever since.
