The Budapest Stars (also NZ Stars ) are a Hungarian ice hockey team from Budapest , which was founded in 2001 and takes part in both the MOL league and the Hungarian championship .

history

The Budapest Stars, which were founded in 2001, were accepted into both the Hungarian Ice Hockey League and the newly founded MOL League before the 2008/09 season . To this end, they entered into a cooperation with the Slovak second division club HK Nové Zámky and have since been playing as NZ Stars .

In their very first season, the Budapest Stars became Hungarian runner-up champions . In the parallel MOL league they reached the playoff semi-finals due to a fourth place in the regular season, where they were defeated by the eventual champions, the Romanian ice hockey club HC Miercurea Ciuc . A year later, the capital city team even won the MOL league. Although the team finished fourth after the main round, play-off wins over main round winners Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák and Újpest Budapest led to the greatest success in the club's history.

Due to financial problems, Vasas Budapest took control of the stars in the 2010/11 season and joined the hockey club Vasas Budapest with a focus on training young players.
