The Gyergyói Hoki Klub (until 2018 Club Sportiv Progym Gheorgheni ; Hungarian : Progym Hargita Gyöngye ) is a Romanian ice hockey club from Gheorgheni , which was founded in 1949 and plays in the Romanian ice hockey league. In addition, the club took part in the then Hungarian-Romanian MOL League in the 2008/09 season and has been participating in today's First League again since 2018 .

history

The ice hockey department of Gyergyószentmiklósi Korcsolya Egylet (Ice Skating Club Gheorgheni) was founded in 1949 and played in the Romanian Ice Hockey League , the top division in the country, for the first time in the 1956/57 season . Due to the change in the patronage company, the name of the association changed quite often. In the 1960s, the team mostly took part in the game operation of the second division, Division II. In 1980 the club reached promotion to the first division under the name Avântul Gheorgheni , from which they were relegated in 1982. Two years later, the rise succeeded.

In 1991 the club withdrew from playing alongside three other teams. In 1994 the CS Progym Gheorgheni was founded in its current form with three sections. After resumption of play in 1995, the ice hockey department returned to the top division.

In 2008 the club was accepted into the new MOL league together with Steaua Bucharest , another Romanian team, but only took part in the league for one season alongside the Romanian ice hockey league.

In 2018 the club was renamed the Gyergyói Hoki Club and was also included in the first division .

The home games of the Gyergyói Hoki Klub are played in the Gyergyószentmiklósi Műjégpálya in Gheorgheni .
