The 2018/19 season was the 15th season of the Elite Women's Hockey League , a supranational women's ice hockey league . Between September 2018 and March 2019 nine teams from Austria , Italy , Hungary , Slovenia and Kazakhstan took part. The Kazakh team played their home games in the venues of the other clubs involved. The EWHL champion was the KMH Budapest for the first time , who defeated EHV Sabers Vienna 5: 3 in the final.

mode

The basic round is a simple round-trip from September 2018 to February 2019. The best 4 teams are qualified for the final tournament. The first-placed team from the regular season against the fourth-placed team. Second against third place. The 2 winners play for the title EWHL champion . Bronze is played between the two losers.

For a victory a team with a win by getting three points, sudden victory overtime mentioned extension or after the shootout two points. The losing team receives no points after regular time, but one point if they lose after extra time or penalty shootout.

Participating teams

In addition to last year's finalists - the Sabers and the Eagles Bozen - KMH Budapest, DEC Salzburg, Aisulu Almaty and the Neuberg Highlanders will again be there. The Southern Stars (without the Slovenian players previously involved) will compete under the name KEHV Lakers as a selection of the Carinthia regional association. The Danish representative Hvidovre - after eight players and the coach moved to Malmö - and HC ŠKP Bratislava are no longer there . New in the league is a second team from the Hungarian capital, MAC / FTC Budapest , and the women's team from HK SŽ Olimpija Ljubljana , which consists mainly of players from the Slovenian national team.

Due to force majeure - massive snowfall in South Tyrol and the closure of the Brenner Pass - the game EHV Sabers Vienna against the EV Bozen Eagles was not made up and scored 0-0 points.
