The 2008/09 season was the fifth season of the Elite Women's Hockey League , a women's ice hockey league . In the fifth year of its existence, a total of nine teams from Austria , Italy , Slovenia , Croatia , the Czech Republic , Germany and Slovakia took part. The fifth champion of the league was again HC Slavia Prague , who repeated the title win of the previous year.
After the first games of the season had been completed, Agordo Hockey from Italy had to withdraw from the league because the main sponsor could not keep his promises. In addition, the two Viennese clubs formed the SG Sabers / Flyers United syndicate . With the OSC Berlin and the ESC Planegg / Würmtal , two German participants took part in the competition for the first time. A team from Hungary refrained from participating for the first time since the league was founded.
mode
The eight participants ultimately played in a double round in the league system , so that each team played 14 games. The team with the most points won the title in the end. A team received three points for a win and two points for a win after extra time . The losing team received no points after regular time, but one point if they lost after extra time.
