Martina Veličková (born February 17, 1989 in Prešov , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with the ŽHK Šarišanka Prešov in the Slovak women's ice hockey league , the Extraliga žien , since 2013 .

Career

Martina Veličková started ice hockey in her homeland Prešov. She was a pupil in the sports class at elementary school and in the fourth year she switched to a boys' ice hockey class when she was nine. She then played for HC OSY Spišská Nová Ves until 2004 , before she moved to Canada to the Caronport Cougars together with two other Slovak players ( Iveta Karafiátová and Zuzana Tomčíková ) and attended high school at the same time. In 2005 she returned to Slovakia and played in the following years for HC Slovan Bratislava in the domestic 1st league as well as in the Elite Women's Hockey League . In 2006 and 2007 Veličková won the EWHL championship title with Slovan before moving to HC Slavia Prague in 2008 . With this she was able to repeat winning the EWHL in 2009. Then she returned to Slovan.

In January 2010 she moved to Germany to the OSC Berlin and played for the OSC in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga , the European Women Champions Cup and the DEB Cup . At the end of the season she won the German championship title with the OSC .

In September 2010 Veličková was obliged by the newly founded HK Pantera Minsk , which initially started playing in the Latvian women's ice hockey league. From 2011 the club also took part in the Elite Women's Hockey League and won this competition in 2013 . After this success, Pantera Minsk was dissolved and Veličková decided to return to the domestic ice hockey league. Since 2013 she has been playing for the ŽHK Šarišanka Prešov in her hometown .

International

Between 2003 and 2014 Veličková was a member of the Slovak national team and with this made it up from Division II ( 2007 ) to the top division of the World Cup ( 2009 ). In addition, she qualified with the national team in two qualifying rounds for the 2010 Winter Olympics , in which Slovakia finished last (eighth) place. In the qualifying tournament, the Slovaks defeated the Bulgarian national team 82-0, with Veličková alone scoring 17 points. The tournament in Vancouver was also the first tournament for the Slovak national team outside of Europe.

Until 2014 two more appearances at World Championships and top Division I, where they the Slovaks as followed for Veličková captain led from the ice. Overall, Veličková completed more than 70 international matches in official IIHF tournaments alone.
