The Tüskecsarnok ( German spiked hall ) is a multi-purpose hall in the XI. District (Újbuda) of the Hungarian Budapest . The 84 spines on the domed roof of the building with an elliptical shape are striking . The space below receives light during the day through the spines. In the evening, the steep glass pyramids can be illuminated in color.
Originally the hall was a project for the Expo 95 , which was to take place in Budapest and Vienna . After the World Exhibition was canceled, the work that had already started was stopped. The hall was not completed until almost 20 years later in 2004.
Nowadays it is mainly used for ice hockey games of the MOL league club MAC Budapest , but also for basketball or handball games. It can also be used by amateur athletes and students from the nearby university.
In addition, cultural events such as concerts, exhibitions and film screenings take place in the hall.
