The 2018/19 season will be the 26th season of the top Slovak ice hockey league , the Tipsport League . For the first time, two clubs from Hungary took part in the league with MAC Budapest and DVTK Jegesmedvék . The HC 05 Banská Bystrica won by a 4: 1 win against HK Nitra for the third time in a row, the Slovak Championship, during MsHK Žilina missed the league and the first league relegation.

In the main round, each of the twelve regular teams play a total of 57 games. In addition to the regular participants, the Slovak U20 national team also competes as a visiting team under the name HK Orange 20 against every league participant in a return leg, whereby the games of the HK Orange 20 are not valued.

The six best-placed teams qualify directly for the playoffs in which the champions are played out. The teams in places 7 to 10 identified two further play-off participants in the pre-play-offs. The team placed last in the main round must compete in the relegation against the champions of the first division .

Each team receives three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime or shootout, one point for a loss after overtime or shootout and zero points for a loss after regular time.

League relegation

In the league relegation, the last-placed MsHK Žilina met in a best-of-seven series against the champion of the second-class first division, HK Dukla Michalovce .

With the victory of Dukla Michalovce, the MsHK Žilina was relegated to the first division, while Dukla Michalovce was promoted to the extra division.
