Ivan Droppa (born February 1, 1972 in Liptovský Mikuláš , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player who was active in Germany with the Düsseldorfer EG , the Kassel Huskies and the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . He also played for various Slovak clubs in the Slovak Extra League . Since 2018 he has been assistant coach at HC 05 Banská Bystrica .

Career

Ivan Droppa began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of the TJ VSŽ Košice , for whose professional team he was active from 1990 to 1992 in the first division , the highest Czechoslovak division. Then he was four and a half years in the franchise of the Chicago Blackhawks under contract, who had selected him in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 37th player. For the Blackhawks themselves, however, he was only on the ice 19 times in the National Hockey League . The rest of the time he spent with their farm team , the Indianapolis Ice , in the International Hockey League . On December 18, 1996, he was finally transferred from Chicago to the Florida Panthers . For their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Carolina Monarchs , he scored 26 points in 47 games, including four goals.

For the 1997/98 season , Droppa returned to TJ VSŽ Košice from the Slovak Extra League . After a year he left the Slovaks and played for a total of five years in the German Ice Hockey League for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , Kassel Huskies and Düsseldorfer EG . In 247 DEL appearances, he scored 28 goals and provided 69 assists. The former Slovak national player spent the 2003/04 season at HC Slavia Prague and HC Litvínov in the Czech Extra League . In the following season he was active for the HK Liptovský Mikuláš in his Slovak hometown, before he moved to MsHK Žilina shortly before the end of the season within the Extra League . With this he managed to win the Slovak championship in the 2005/06 season .

Following the championship title with Žilina, Droppa moved to HC Košice, where he had started his career. He started the 2008/09 season again at MsHK Žilina and ended it at SERC Wild Wings in the 2nd Bundesliga . Most recently, the former NHL player played in the 2009/10 season for the Ours de Villard-de-Lans in the French Ligue Magnus , as well as the MHK Dolný Kubín in the second-rate Slovak 1st division .

International

For Czechoslovakia , Droppa took part in the 1990 European Junior Championships and the 1991 and 1992 World Junior Championships . He played for Slovakia at the 1997 , 1999 , 2000 and 2001 World Championships , as well as at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey .
