Guntram A. Plangg

Guntram Adolf Plangg (born January 19, 1933 in Bürs ) is an Austrian Romance scholar, Rhaeto-Romanic scholar and linguist.

life and work

Plangg studied German, Romance studies and English in Innsbruck and Poitiers. He did his doctorate in 1957 in Innsbruck with Alwin Kuhn on the Rhaeto-Romanic field names of the Brandnertal. A contribution to Vorarlberg's Rätoromania Alemanica (Innsbruck 1962). From 1958 to 1960 he was a lecturer in Catania, then assistant at the Institute for Romance Studies in Innsbruck. In 1969 he completed his habilitation there with Speech Form as a consequence and providence. On the phonology of the Dolomite Ladin (Badiot) and its neighbors (Tübingen 1972). In 1970/71 he was visiting professor at Ohio State University in Columbus (with Hans-Erich Keller ). From 1972 until his retirement in 2001 he taught at the linguistic chair “Romance Studies I” in Innsbruck . Since then he has been involved in the publication of numerous place and field name books. Buck was also Vice President of the Academy of German-Italian Studies from 1996 to 1998 .
