Paul Videsott

Paul Videsott (* 1971 in Bruneck , Italy ) has been the successor to Christoph Pan , Scientific Director of the South Tyrolean Ethnic Group Institute and Professor of Romance and Ladin Studies at the Free University of Bolzano since 2013 . His research focus is on the Ladin language.

He is the recipient of the Theodor Körner Prize 2001 and the South Tyrolean Science Prize 2018.

Paul Videsott deals with the origin of Ladin names. He traces his own family name back to the farm of the same name, for example, which can be traced back to the late and vulgar Latin "Ovile de subtu", ie to the "sheep pen below". Videsott therefore means Unterstaller in German .
