Hans-Erich Keller

Hans-Erich Keller (born August 8, 1922 in Solothurn ; † May 23, 1999 in Columbus, Ohio ) was a Swiss Romanist and Medievalist .

life and work

Keller was the son of the dialectologist Oscar Keller. He received his doctorate in 1952 under Walther von Wartburg in Basel with Etude descriptive sur le vocabulaire de Wace (Berlin 1953) and completed his habilitation there with Etudes linguistiques sur les parlers valdôtains. Contribution à la connaissance des dialectes franco-provençaux modern (Bern 1958). From 1954 to 1962 he was a high school teacher for French, Italian and Spanish. Between 1955 and 1968 he wrote numerous articles for the French Etymological Dictionary . 1959/60 he was visiting professor in Innsbruck, 1961/63 in Ann Arbor, Michigan . From 1963 to 1969 he was a professor in Utrecht , 1968 visiting professor and from 1969 until his retirement in 1994 he was a full professor at Ohio State University in Columbus. Keller was an honorary doctorate from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo .
