The Ernst Thälmann banner of honor was the highest award of the pioneer organization Ernst Thälmann in the GDR , which was donated in 1973. The 115 × 155 cm red flag made of artificial silk shows in its upper corner a round gray medallion, the cloth print of which shows the heads of Wilhelm Pieck (back) and the head of Ernst Thälmann in front of it. The flag was also called an honorary banner of the SED when the flag ribbon with the golden embroidered inscription honorary banner of the SED was also awarded. The flag was carried on a golden or wood-colored flagpole, with a golden flag tip on all festive occasions. Usually, however, it was in a collective room or other public space.
