The 2004/05 season of the ST extraliga was the twelfth regular staging of the top division of ice hockey in Slovakia . In the playoff final, HC Slovan Bratislava prevailed 4: 3 against HKm Zvolen and thus won the fifth Slovak championship title in the club's history. Last year's promoted HK Spartak Dubnica, however, only reached last place in the regular season, so that he had to participate in the relegation against a representative of the 1st division . There Dubnica met HC Topolčany , who were defeated 4-2.

Main round

The 2004/05 season of the Slovak Extra League was mainly characterized by the return of many NHL stars. Due to the lockout , many players signed contracts with their home clubs in Europe. The Slovak clubs, however, had the problem that they could not keep up financially with clubs from Sweden , Germany or the Czech Republic , so that some Slovak players only returned to Slovakia for a short time and then signed more lucrative contracts abroad during the season.

Relegation

In the relegation, the last one in the main round met HC Topolčany . The champions of the first division , the second team of HKm Zvolen , were not allowed to take part in the relegation, so that HC Topolčany, the runner-up in the first division, took part in the relegation. In the best-of-seven series, the extra league from Dubnica prevailed with four wins and thus remained in the top division. However, the club sold its license after the season to the MHC Martin and thus rose voluntarily to the amateur league.
