Michal Macho (born January 17, 1982 in Martin , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player . Since 2012 he has been playing for HK Sary-Arka Karaganda in the Wysschaja Hockey League in the position of winger .

Career

In his youth, macho went through the youth departments of the Martinskeho hokeja club in his hometown. There he played in the 1995/96 season - at the age of 13 - for the first time in one of the youth teams. In the following three years he increased continuously, up to 102 scorer points in only 55 games in the 1997/98 season, as well as a positive plus / minus statistic of 96. After the striker was rarely used in the 1998/99 season came, he made his debut in the following game year in the professional team, which was participating in the game operations of the second-rate Slovak 1st division at that time . At the end of the season, he and the team celebrated the championship title of the first division and thus also the promotion to the Slovak extra league . In addition, Macho was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the sixth round in 183rd position by the San Jose Sharks .

The winger initially decided against moving to North America and stayed with his home club until 2002. In the summer of 2002 he moved to the league competitor HC Slovan Bratislava , where he played for a total of four years. During this time he won the Slovak championship title with the team in 2003 and 2005 and the IIHF Continental Cup in 2004 . Furthermore, the striker developed into a solid type of player who often had to struggle with injuries. Nevertheless, the Slovak dared to move to North America in the summer of 2006 when he accepted a contract offer from the San Jose Sharks on June 3. In the course of the pre-season training camp, Macho was sent to the farm team , the Worcester Sharks from the American Hockey League , on September 25 . There he made his debut on the North American ice rink in October, but injured his knee so badly in mid-December after playing 27 games that he was out for the rest of the 2006/07 season . In the 27 games before the injury, he had seven points scorer, including one goal.

Macho returned to his Slovak homeland after the disappointing season with the Sharks in summer 2007, where he initially played twelve games for HC Košice before rejoining his home club, which had since been renamed MHC Martin . In his hometown, he played the best year of his career in the 2007/08 season with 35 points. The striker significantly increased this record in the following year when he managed to reach 56 points. In the middle of the season he had also won the IIHF Continental Cup with the MHC for the second time in his career, in which he played a major role with four scorer points in three matches. From 2009 to 2011 Macho played for BK Mladá Boleslav in the Czech extra league . He was then committed to the 2011/12 season by his ex-club HC Slovan Bratislava.

International

On an international level, Macho played for Slovakia for the first time at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2000 . There he was able to contribute one goal in four matches to reach fifth place in the final table. Two years later he took part in the U20 Junior World Championship with the national selection . With two preparations in seven games, he achieved about as many points per game as in 2000. The team finished eighth in the end.

Among the seniors, Macho was nominated for the squad for the 2009 world championships in Switzerland . Due to possible subsequent nominations from the National Hockey League , he was not registered for the preliminary round and was on call for the intermediate round, in which he was used once. At the 2010 World Cup in Germany , he played six times for his country.
