The saryarka karagandy ( Kazakh Сарыарқа Қарағанды хоккей клубы ) is a Kazakh ice hockey club from the city zentralkasachischen Karaganda . The team plays in the multinational Vysschaya Hockey League .

history

HK Saryarka was founded on July 25, 2006 to represent the city in place of the Awtomobilist Karaganda , who was dissolved in the 1990s , and is considered to be his unofficial successor team.

The team played the first two seasons in the Pervaya League , the third highest Russian division. In the preliminary round, HK Saryarka took third place. In the 2007/08 season, in the final of the play-offs, the Russian team Vympel Meschduretschensk was defeated 2: 1 (6: 3, 3: 6, 4: 2) after wins. Thus, the club was champion of the group "Siberian Far East" 2007/08 in the Pervaya League. Due to this success, the team was allowed to play in the Vysschaya League , the second highest Russian league, in the 2008/09 season and at the end of the preliminary round took the disappointing ninth place in the eastern division, which was not enough for the play-offs.

The team was nominated for the first time as a participant in the IIHF Continental Cup for the 2009/10 season . The outcome of the group B tournament in the second round was decided on the first day of the match. The team lost to the hosts of KS Cracovia Krakow with 2: 3. Subsequent wins against Tartu Kalev-Välk from Estonia with 8: 0 and against SC Energija Elektrėnai from Lithuania with 4: 1 only reached second place in the final standings, so the team from Karaganda was eliminated from the further course of the tournament.

From 2009 the club played in the Kazakh ice hockey championship. In the 2009/10 season, the club won first place in the preliminary round, decided the semi-final series against Gornjak Rudny 3-0 for themselves. The final series against HK Beibarys Atyrau was only won in the fifth play-off. Thus the team became Kazakh champions for the first time.

In 2012, the club was included in the Vysschaya Hockey League , which was founded in 2010 and is the second division in Russia. In the 2012/13 season HK Saryarka Karaganda won the preliminary round, but had to admit defeat in the playoff final 3: 4 against Toros Neftekamsk . In the 2013/14 season , the club finished 4th in the preliminary round. In the playoffs, HK Saryarka Karaganda advanced into the final and was able to prevail in this 4-2 against Rubin Tyumen . Thus, the team won the Vysschaya Hockey League for the first time.

HK Saryarka Karaganda acts as the farm team of KHL participant HK Awangard Omsk .

Second team

When the club was playing in Russian leagues, it also had a second team that played in the Kazakh ice hockey championship. In the 2006/07 season the fourth place was won and a year later the sixth and last place. In the 2008/09 season, the team again achieved fourth place. Since the club only participated in the Kazakh Ice Hockey Championship from the 2009/10 season, the second team became the first team. Since he was back in the second-rate Russian Vysschaya Hockey League since the 2012/13 season , the first team became the second team again. In the 2012/13 season, the 2nd team finished 10th and last place. As a result, you could not qualify for the playoffs. After the season, the club's second team was disbanded.
