Leonīds Tambijevs (born September 26, 1970 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a former Latvian ice hockey player who has been working as a coach since the end of his career.
Career
As a player
Leonīds Tambijevs began his career in 1990 at SKA Saint Petersburg in Russia . After one season he moved to HK Pardaugava Riga , where he was active four seasons. 1995 joined the Latvian Hvidovre IK from Denmark . Here he was one of the best scorers in the league until he moved to Lukko Rauma in the Finnish SM-liiga in 1998 . In the 2000/01 season , the right-handed shooter went on the ice for the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League , who were playing their first season in the DEL. After another year in Denmark, he joined the Russian second division club Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . With his team Tambijevs was champion in the Wysschaja Liga and was able to draw attention to himself as the top scorer and top scorer in the league. The next year he played again in Finland and also in the Russian Super League . At the beginning of 2004 he moved to Switzerland , where the Latvian was active for three teams in the national league A and B in two and a half years . In 2006 he played in Latvia for DHK Latgale before Tambijevs joined HC Merano in Italy's second-highest division . He then spent his last season at EV Zeltweg in Austria . Then the Latvian ended his career.
International
Leonīds Tambijevs first played for the Latvian national team in 1993 . By 2007 he took part in 13 world championships and was also part of the Latvian squad at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics .
As a trainer
After retiring, Tambijevs became head coach of SK Riga 18 , which was integrated into the Dinamo Riga franchise in 2010 and renamed HK Riga , but Tambijevs remained head coach. For the U18 World Cup in 2010 he was appointed assistant coach of the Latvian U18 national team.
In February 2012 - in addition to his work at HK Riga - he was introduced as the new head coach of the U18 national team.
