Awtomobilist Karaganda ( Russian Автомобилист Караганда ) was an ice hockey team from the Kazakh city of Karaganda , which was active from 1966 to 1996 and from 1998 to 1999.
history
The club was founded in 1966 as Stroitel Karaganda (Строитель Караганда) and initially played in the third highest Soviet league, which the team, which was renamed Awtomobilist in 1980, won in 1983 and was thus promoted. In the first season there was relegation from the Pervaya League. In the next season the team managed to get promoted again. The team took part in the International League from 1992 to 1996 , but mostly took one of the lower places. In 1993 the team was given the old name Stroitel . Due to financial difficulties, the association was dissolved in 1996. In 1998 the team was re-established as Awtomobilist , but disbanded after only one season in the Kazakh championship .
HK Saryarka Karaganda, founded in 2006, is considered the unofficial successor team to Awtomobilist .
