The 2011/12 season was the 19th regular staging of the highest Slovak ice hockey league, the Tipsport Extraliga . The champions were HC Slovan Bratislava , who defeated HC Košice in the playoff final with 4: 3 wins in the best-of-seven series. Since the champions of the first division , HC 46 Bardejov , were not allowed to move up as the farm team of HC Košice, no relegation was played and HK Nitra remained in the extra league . As in the previous season, eleven teams took part in the game, with the Slovak U20 national team again playing out of valuation as HK Orange 20.
In the main round, each of the ten regular teams played a total of 55 games. The eight best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. In addition to the regular participants, the Slovak U20 national team also competed as a visiting team under the name HK Orange 20 against every league participant in a game, whereby the games of the HK Orange 20 were not valued. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime or shootout, one point for a defeat after overtime or shootout and zero points for a defeat after regular time.
