Ivan Švarný (born October 30, 1984 in Nitra , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HKm Zvolen from the Slovakian extra league since June 2019 .

Career

Ivan Švarný began his career as a hockey player with the Belleville Bulls , for which he was active in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League from 2002 to 2004 . The defender then played during his first stop in professional ice hockey in the 2004/05 season for the New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League . From 2005 to 2007 he played after his return to Europe for HK Nitra in the Slovak extra league . The 2007/08 season he began with HC Oceláři Třinec from the Czech extra league . He left this during his first season and played the following three and a half years for his league rivals HC Litvínov . For the 2011/12 season he was signed by HC Slovan Bratislava , with whom he immediately won the Slovak championship title.

For the 2012/13 season Slovan Bratislava was included in the Continental Hockey League , in which Švarný immediately earned a regular place. Before the following season, Švarný took part in the training camp of the KHL newcomer KHL Medveščak Zagreb and received a contract in late August 2013 after Kyle Klubertanz was seriously injured. He then played over 50 KHL games for Zagreb before moving to HK Dinamo Minsk with four teammates before the 2014/15 season.

Between July 2015 and June 2019 he was again under contract with Slovan Bratislava in the KHL. Since June 2019 he has been playing for HKm Zvolen from the Slovakian extra league .

International

For Slovakia , Švarný took part in the 2009 World Cup. In the course of the tournament he remained pointless and punished in three games. In the following years he completed more international matches, but did not make it into the squad for a major tournament. It wasn't until 2013 that he played his second World Cup and made it into the Slovaks' World Cup squad in 2014 .
