The 1995/96 season of the Extraliga was the third regular staging of the top division of ice hockey in Slovakia . In the playoff final, the TJ VSŽ Košice prevailed against HC Dukla Trenčín with 4-1 victories and thus won the second Slovak championship title in the club's history. The four best-placed teams in the second-class first division , the HK VTJ Spišská Nová Ves , HKm Zvolen , HK 36 Skalica and HC VTJ MEZ Michalovce competed against the last two of the Extraliga for participation in the Extraliga in the following season. Finally the HK VTJ Spišská Nová Ves and the HC Banská Bystrica prevailed.
