history

In its history, the club was renamed several times, for example in 1952 from TJ Sokol Tekla Skalica to TJ Tatran Skalica , later to ZVL Skalica and on January 1, 1993 to HK 36 Skalica. From 1974 to 1989 the senior team of the then ZVL Skalica played in the 1st Slovakian league (SNHL) (second class), but never got above fourth place. In 1989 he was even relegated to the 2nd division, but was able to qualify for promotion to the 1st Slovak division in 1993. In 1995/96 they reached the relegation round to the Extraliga, but failed clearly as the last in qualification. In the following season the relegation was again achieved, in which the HK 36 Skalica took second place and thus rose to the extra league.

In the first extra league season in the club's history they reached a good sixth place, but were eliminated in the first play-off round against HK Poprad . In the following season 1998/99 the HK 36 took second place after the championship round and came to the play-off semifinals, where they were defeated by HC Košice .

During the lockout in the NHL , Žigmund Pálffy went back to the ice for a few games for HK 36, but then moved to HC Slavia Prague . Since many other Slovak clubs had players from the NHL permanently available, Skalica missed the play-offs. In the 2005/06 season they reached the quarter-finals, but were eliminated in a series of seven games 3: 4 against HK Dynamax Oil Nitra .

In the 2007/08 season, HK 36 managed to assert itself in the quarter-finals against HKM Zvolen, then lost by one goal in the seventh semi-final game against HC Košice and thus finally finished third in the Slovakian extra league.

The 2008-09 season was the most successful in the club's history. After HK 36 took third place in the preliminary round, he defeated HC Dukla Trenčín in the quarter-finals (4: 0), as well as the defending champion HC Slovan Bratislava in the semi-finals (4: 3), and met HC Košice in the final . The series ended with a 4-2 win for HC Košice, with which HK 36 Skalica finished second.

The club reached in the preliminary round of the 2008/09 season for the first time in the club's history 100 points and 200 goals (with 168 goals conceded).

Team captain Žigmund Pálffy set several historical offensive records in the Extraliga in the 2008/09 season:

  • 64 goals (previously Vlastimil Plavucha in the 1999/2000 season - 49 goals)
  • 126 points scorer (previously Pavol Demitra in the 2003/04 season, and Žigmund Pálffy in the 2007/2008 season - 99 points each)
  • a value of +100 in the plus / minus rating
  • a series of 25 games with at least one scorer point (previously Martin Hujsa in the 2008/09 season - 19 games)

With 70 games played, this gives Pálffy an average of 0.91 goals and 1.8 points per game.

The scorer point record of 99 points was overcome in the 2008/09 season by another player from HK 36 Skalica: Juraj Mikúš reached 113 points. At the same time, Mikúš set a new historical record in the Extraliga with 75 assists.

In February 2016, the club withdrew from the Extraliga because they could no longer provide a competitive team due to financial problems. In spring 2016, a new men's team was built out of the youth club MHKM Skalica under the leadership of President Žigmund Pálffy. With the establishment of a new game operating company, it started playing in the first division for the 2016/17 season under the name HK Skalica.
