The HC Topoľčany is a Slovak ice hockey club in the city of Topoľčany , which was founded in 1932 and has played in the second-class Slovak first division since 1993 . The club plays its home games in the Topvar Aréna , which has a capacity of 3,400 spectators.

history

In 1932, the Atleticky Club Juventus Topoľčany was founded in Topoľčany . Three years later, another ice hockey club was founded with the ŠK Topoľčany , with which the AC merged in 1939. This new club played under the name TS Topoľčany . After the Second World War, all sports in Czechoslovakia were reorganized, so that the club changed its name several times. From 1968, ice hockey could be practiced in Topoľčany on the first artificial ice surface - before that, it was played on natural ice. Between 1970 and 1972 this ice rink was covered, which greatly improved the training and game conditions. At the end of the 1970s, the club made it to the divided second division of Czechoslovakia, the 1st SNHL. A year later, however, he rose again to the third division.

From 1980, an army club called TJ OSCR Topoľčany was stationed in Topoľčany , which served as Dukla Trenčín's B team until 1988 and played in the 1st SNHL. In May 1993 these two clubs merged to form HC VTJ Topoľčany , which from then on played in the second division of Slovakia, the first division. The greatest success in the club's history is participation in the Extraliga delegation at the end of the 2004/05 season . There, however, the team failed with 2: 4 at HK Dubnica . A year later , the champions of the first division, HC 05 Banská Bystrica , decided not to take part in the relegation. Therefore, the HC Topoľčany took part in this, but could not exist against the MHC Martin and lost the relegation without a win in four games.

With the dissolution of the army base in Topoľčany in 2006, the association was renamed HC Topoľčany. At the end of the 2006/07 season, the club's juniors reached the runner-up in Slovakia.
