Ľubomír Višňovský (born August 11, 1976 in Topoľčany , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player . The defender played over 900 games in the National Hockey League , much of it for the Los Angeles Kings . With the national team of Slovakia won gold, silver and bronze medals at world championships. He was also active as an inline hockey player and won the silver medal at the 2008 World Cup with the national team of his home country .
Career
Višňovský began his career at the Slovak club HC Slovan Bratislava , for which he was a total of six seasons in the Slovak Extraliga on the ice before he was selected in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft as 118th in the fourth round by the Los Angeles Kings .
Despite these high draft number of links contactors already belonged in his first season to the permanent staff of the Kings, who scored in 81 games back seven goals and 32 assists. He returned to his home club in Bratislava in the 2004/05 lockout season . In the 2006/07 season Višňovský took part in the NHL All-Star Game .
On June 29, 2008, a day before a no trade clause came into effect in his contract, the Kings Višňovský exchanged for Jarret Stoll and Matt Greene from the Edmonton Oilers . For the Oilers he completed only 50 games in the 2008/09 season due to injury.
On March 3, 2010 Višňovský was given in exchange for Ryan Whitney and a draft pick to the Anaheim Ducks . In Anaheim, the Slovak quickly advanced to become a regular player and also impressed with his offensive qualities. On March 4, 2011, he became the first defender in franchise history to score a hat trick and scored the decisive goal for the 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars a few seconds before extra time was over . The 2010/11 regular season ended Višňovský with 18 goals and 68 points, the best value during this season in the NHL and only missed to equalize Scott Niedermayer's franchise record by one point . With 18 goals, attacking defender Fredrik Olaussons broke the record for most goals this season by a Ducks defender (16 goals in the 1998/99 season ).
On June 22, 2012, a year before his five-year contract, worth a total of $ 28 million, the Californians transferred him to the New York Islanders in exchange for a second-round vote in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft . There Višňovský played three seasons before his expiring contract was not extended and he decided to return to his hometown club HC Slovan Bratislava. There he ended the 2015/16 season and then announced the end of his active career.
International
Višňovský has played nine world championships for the Slovak national ice hockey team since 1996 and won all possible medals of this tournament with the gold medal in 2002 , the silver medal in 2000 and the bronze medal in 2003 . He also took part with Slovakia in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and the 1998 , 2002 , 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics.
In June 2008 he won the silver medal with the Slovak national inline hockey team at the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship 2008 in Bratislava .
