Ľubomír Hurtaj (born November 28, 1975 in Topoľčany , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player . His brother Peter Hurtaj is also a hockey player.

Career

Ľubomír Hurtaj began his career as a hockey player at HC Topoľčany , for whose professional team he was active from 1993 to 1996 in the first division , the second Slovak division. During the 1995/96 season he also made his debut in the Slovak Extra League when he was on the ice in two games for HC 07 Prešov and scored a goal. This was followed by a year in the Slovakian extra league at HK Spišská Nová Ves , HK Nitra , again at HK Spišská Nová Ves and at HC Dukla Trenčín . During the 1997/98 season he also played for the second division HC 05 Banská Bystrica . In the summer of 2000 the center received a contract with the top team HC Slovan Bratislava , with whom he won the Slovak championship title for the first time in the 2001/02 season . The 2002/03 season he also began with Slovan Bratislava, but moved to HC Plzeň 1929 from the Czech extra league during the season . Already towards the end of the 2003/04 season he left this team and instead joined HIFK Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga .

From 2004 to 2006, Hurtaj competed in the main round for HC Energie Karlovy Vary from the Czech extra league. He then ran for Lausanne HC from Switzerland in both years . With this he rose in the 2004/05 season from the National League A and missed the direct return to the playoffs of the National League B in the following season with Lausanne . For the 2006/07 season the former national player returned to HC Slovan Bratislava and was again Slovak champion with the team. The following season he spent with the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg in the German Ice Hockey League . He was responsible for three goals and ten assists in 40 games for Lower Saxony. For the 2008/09 season he returned to Slovakia, where he first took on his ex-club HC Dukla Trenčín and MHC Martin , before ending the season with HC Vítkovice Steel from the Czech Extraliga. The 2009/10 season, in turn, he began at HKm Zvolen in the Slovakian Extraliga and finished it at the Guildford Flames in the English Premier Ice Hockey League . In summer 2010 he joined the Romanian club HSC Csíkszereda , for which he mainly played in the multinational MOL league . In the 2011/12 season he joined the team in the playoffs of the Romanian ice hockey league and was Romanian champion with the HSC .

After the 2012/13 season, his contract with HSC ran out and Hurtaj first moved within the league to the Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák . In December 2013 he left the Hungarian club and was signed by HK Nové Zámky , with whom he won the championship of the MOL league at the end of the season.

International

For Slovakia , Hurtaj took part in the 2000 World Cup, where he and his team won the silver medal. He himself contributed to this success with one goal and two assists in eight games.
