Miroslav Zálešák (born January 2, 1980 in Skalica , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player . In the National Hockey League he played twelve games for the San Jose Sharks . He was also active for the Cleveland Barons , the HK 36 Skalica and the HC Oceláři Třinec , among others .
Career
Zálešák first went through the youth teams of the MHC Nitra , before he played his first games in the Slovak extra league for the professional team in the 1997/98 season at the age of 17 .
After he was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 in 104th place by San Jose Sharks , he moved to the Canadian Quebec Major Junior Hockey League during the 1998/99 season , where he played for the Drummondville Voltigeurs . After an excellent second season with the Voltigeurs with 111 points in only 60 games, he signed his first professional contract with the San Jose Sharks at the beginning of the 2000/01 season. They first used him with the Kentucky Thoroughblades , their farm team at the time , but with whom he moved to Cleveland a year later . Towards the end of the 2002/03 season , the Slovak then played his first ten games in the National Hockey League . He scored a goal in his first game with his first shot and was able to prepare two more in the following nine games. Also in the 2003/04 season he ran twice with the Sharks and also completed his best season in the AHL with the Cleveland Barons with 75 points in 72 games. This was the only time in franchise history that he led the team into the playoffs.
How many other players returned Zálešák during the lockout - 2004/05 back to Europe. In September 2004 he signed a contract with the Slovak first division club HK 36 Skalica . Just two months later he moved to the Czech extra league for HC Chemopetrol Litvínov . There he played until the end of the 2004/05 season.
With the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), a kind of collective bargaining agreement , the San Jose Sharks did not give him a new contract at the beginning of the 2005/06 season because it blew their budget. The winger signed a contract with the Washington Capitals as a free agent in August 2005 . Due to a clause that assured him that he would terminate his contract if he were sent back to the AHL, he was able to join the Swedish elite series club Södertälje SK in October 2005 .
At the beginning of the 2006/07 season he moved back to the Czech Republic for HC Oceláři Třinec . From 2008 to 2011 the Slovak played for his ex-club HK 36 Skalica. In January 2011 he joined HC Košice , with whom he immediately won the Slovak championship title at the end of the season . He himself was the top scorer of the main round and was elected to the All-Star Team of the Slovak Extra League.
In the 2012/13 season he was under contract with the Piráti Chomutov in the Czech Extra League and collected 22 points scorer in 53 season games. He then moved to HK Ertis Pawlodar in the Kazakh ice hockey league and became the Kazakh champion in 2014. In February 2015 he returned to HK 36 Skalica, played for the Swindon Wildcats in England for a short time in autumn of the same year and from February 2016 for the ŠHK 37 Piešťany . He ended his career in the summer of 2016 and became a scout for the Colorado Avalanche . Zálešák holds the Cleveland Barons franchise records for most goals (84), most goals in a season (35) and most points in a season (75).
