Jiří Bicek (born December 3, 1978 in Košice , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Košice in the Slovakian extra league since May 2013 .
Career
Jiří Bicek began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of TJ VSŽ Košice , for whose professional team he was active from 1995 to 1997 in the Slovak extra league. During this time he won the Slovak championship for the first time with the team in the 1995/96 season and was runner-up the following year. He was then selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 131 players by the New Jersey Devils , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2000/01 season . The attacker had previously played for three years exclusively for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Albany River Rats . With the New Jersey Devils, the left-handed shooter won the prestigious Stanley Cup in the 2002/03 season as the first Slovakian ever to win the prestigious Stanley Cup after he and his team had prevailed in the final against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim .
On September 17, 2004 Bicek was hired as a free agent from his ex-club HC Košice, which he left at the end of the season to play for Leksands IF in the Swedish Elitserien . After the winger began the 2006/07 season again in Košice, he finished it in Sweden at Brynäs IF . In the summer of 2007, the Slovak national player received a contract with KalPa Kuopio from the Finnish SM-liiga . The following season he began with their league rivals JYP Jyväskylä , who was Finnish champion for the first time at the end of the season . Before that, however, he signed during the season with EHC Biel from the Swiss National League A , for which he played until the end of the season. For the 2009/10 season he moved to the Elitserien to Södertälje SK . For the 2010/11 season he signed a trial contract with the newly established Slovakian KHL participant HC Lev Poprad . Since this did not take up the game, Bicek was initially without a club. After completing two games in the first division , the second Slovak division, for HC 07 Prešov , he moved to HC Kladno from the Czech extra league , where he was under contract until 2013. During this time he was loaned to HC Karlovy Vary in December 2012 .
Since May 2013 he has been under contract with his hometown club again.
International
For Slovakia , Bicek took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1996 and 1997 . He was also part of the Slovak squad at the 1997 and 2009 World Championships .
