Richard Kapuš (born February 9, 1973 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC 05 Banská Bystrica in the Slovakian extra league since 2011 .
Career
Richard Kapuš began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth division of HC Slovan Bratislava . For his professional team, the attacker played from 1990 to 2000 first in the 1st division of Czechoslovakia and from 1993 in the Slovakian extra league, which was newly founded after the division of Czechoslovakia . With Bratislava he won the national championship in 1998 and 2000 , while he and his team failed in the playoff final at HC Košice in the 1998/99 season . For the 2000/01 season , the left shooter moved to HC Oceláři Třinec from the Czech extra league, but returned to Bratislava at the end of the season.
After his return to Slovakia, Kapuš won the championship again with HC Slovan Bratislava in 2002 and 2003 . He then received a contract with HK Awangard Omsk from the Russian Super League , but ended the 2003/04 season in the Swedish Elitserien with Luleå HF . Omsk eventually became champions in the playoffs. For the 2004/05 season , the national player signed again in Bratislava, for which he completed the best points season of his career. With a total of 66 scorer points, including 21 goals, he led his home club to his fifth Slovak championship.
Due to his good performance, Kapuš Metallurg Novokuznetsk attracted attention, for which he was on the ice from 2005 to 2007 in the Russian Super League. In the 2007/08 season , the two-time Olympian was Slovak champion for the last time with Bratislava. In the same season he failed with his team at European level already in the group stage of the IIHF European Champions Cup after the last group game against the eventual winner HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from Russia was lost 2-1 in extra time. From the 2008/09 season , Kapuš played in the newly formed Continental Hockey League for his former club Metallurg Novokuznetsk before his contract was dissolved in December 2009. In January 2010, Kapuš was signed by HK Lada Tolyatti . By the end of the season he was on the ice for the team in four games, with no point or penalty. In the 2010/11 season he played again for a regular club HC Slovan Bratislava in the extra league, where he led the team as team captain. The following season he moved to HC 05 Banská Bystrica .
International
For Czechoslovakia Kapuš took part in the Junior World Championship in 1993 , in which he finished third with his team. For Slovakia he took part in the 1999 , 2000 , 2003 , 2004 , 2006 and 2007 world championships. He was also in the Slovak squad for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and 2006 in Turin . In addition, the striker joined the Slovak national inline hockey team at the 2008 World Cup , which took place in his hometown of Bratislava . Here he and his team took second place.
