Roman Kukumberg (born April 8, 1980 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with Mountfield HK in the Czech extra league since July 2014 .
Career
Roman Kukumberg began his career as an ice hockey player at SHK Danubia Bratislava for whose junior team he was active from 1996 to 1999. He also took part in the 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons in the first division of the Danubian professional team . After he was in the 1999/2000 season at MHC Nitra also in both the junior and the professional team on the ice, he moved to HC Dukla Trenčín , for whom he played the following four seasons in the Slovak extra league, and with whom he was Slovak champion for the first time in the 2003/04 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the fourth round as a total of 113th player from the Toronto Maple Leafs . First, however, he played a season in the Russian Super League for Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk before he scored a total of eight scorer points in 54 games in the 2005/06 season for the farm team of the Maple Leafs, the Toronto Marlies from the American Hockey League .
After a year in North America, Kukumberg returned to his Slovak homeland, where he received a contract with HC Slovan Bratislava , with which he became Slovak champion for the second time in his career in the 2007/08 season . Despite the success, the center left Bratislava to play for his ex-club Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk from the Russian super league.
After only one year he returned to Slovan Bratislava, with whom he took part in the newly founded Champions Hockey League in the 2008/09 season , in which he was used in all four group games of his team and scored two goals. With Slovan he also reached the playoff semifinals of the Extraliga . In May 2009, Kukumberg was signed by HK Lada Tolyatti from the Continental Hockey League . This transferred him to league rivals Ak Bars Kazan at the end of January 2010 , with whom he won the Gagarin Cup at the end of the season .
In June 2010 he was committed by HK tractor Chelyabinsk , for which he completed 17 KHL games before he left the club in mid-October of the same year and was committed by Amur Khabarovsk . For the 2011/12 season he returned one more time to HC Slovan Bratislava in the Extraliga. At the end of the season he won another Slovak championship with the club before HC Slovan was included in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) for the following season . In the following two playing years, Kukumberg completed over 90 KHL games for Slovan before he was signed by Mountfield HK from the Czech extra league in July 2014 .
