history
The Slovak U20 national ice hockey team started playing for the 1994 World Cup and rose within two years from the C World Championship to the A World Championship, in which it has played continuously ever since. At the 1999 and 2015 World Championships , the Slovak U20 national team won a medal when they finished third. Up to and including 1998, the U20 national team covered the entire junior area at the World Championships, while the U19 national team took part in the Junior European Championships. Since the introduction of the U18 World Championships in 1999 , the U20 national team of Slovakia has only represented the U20 junior level at world championships.
Participation in the extra league
Since the 2007/08 season , the U20 national team of Slovakia has been participating in the top Slovak division, the Extraliga , under the name HK Orange 20 (in the 2007/08 season as HK VSR SR 20 ) in order to better prepare for international tournaments The team plays fewer games than the regular participants and their games are not included in the official rating. The team played its home games in Zimný štadión Púchov in Púchov , northwestern Slovakia, with a capacity of 2,500 . The team colors are orange, black and white.
After the U20 selection had done very badly at the World Championships in the years after the surprising third place at the 1999 World Cup and the Czech U18 selection had also been relegated from the top division in 2007 , the Slovak association of the selection team decided more To grant opportunities in competition. To this end, the best players under the age of 20 who are active in Slovakia have been brought together in the HK Orange team every year since 2007.
HK Orange only plays part of the game plan. In the weeks leading up to Christmas and afterwards, the team is released from play as it prepares for the upcoming U20 World Cup. This traditionally begins on December 26th.
Since 2011, HK Orange 20 has also been participating in the second division, the first division . Also in this league only a limited number of games are played.
