The 2011/12 season was the 19th regular staging of the first division , the second Slovak ice hockey division . Master was HC 46 Bardejov while the HK Púchov descent into the second league. With the inclusion of HC Slovan Bratislava in the Continental Hockey League , the HK Spišská Nová Ves , MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš , HC 07 Prešov , HC Dukla Senica and the ŠHK 37 Piešťany applied for inclusion in the Extraliga. The Slovak Ice Hockey Association decided at the end of May 2012 for the ŠHK 37 Piešťany as a promoter to the extra league. As the farm team of HC Košice, HC 46 Bardejov had no right of promotion.

mode

First, the 13 teams played a common main round, in which they met every opponent in the return leg, as well as one game each against HK Orange , the Slovak U20 national team, which took part in the league without evaluation. The ten best-placed teams then contested a qualifying round in which the eight participants in the playoffs were played, whose champions were allowed to participate in the relegation against the last placed in the Extraliga . There all teams met again in the first and second leg against HK Orange, who played again without a rating. The last three placed in the main round then denied playouts, with the last placed in the playouts relegated directly to the 2nd division , while the penultimate had to participate in the relegation. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime, and one point for a defeat after overtime. No points were awarded for a defeat after normal time.
