The 2000/01 season was the eighth regular staging of the first division , the second Slovak ice hockey division . Champion became the MsHK Žilina , who, like the runner-up MHC Nitra, went straight to the extra league. The only relegated team was HK Trnava , who withdrew from the league for financial reasons before the start of the season.

mode

In the main round, each of the eleven teams played a total of 40 games. The first two after the main round rose directly to the extra league. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a draw. No points were awarded for a defeat after normal time.
