Mattoni is a mineral water brand from Kyselka ( Gießhübl-Sauerbrunn ) in the Czech Republic . The bottler is Mattoni Akciová společnost , a subsidiary of Karlovarské minerálni vody .
history
The history of mineral water began in 1864 when Heinrich Mattoni and his business partner Knoll, who later left the company, started bottling in what was then Gießhübl-Puchstein. Mattoni was able to successfully increase production and built a modern factory with a distribution network in Karlovy Vary and western Bohemia. Mattonis Gießhübler Sauerbrunnen was recognized as one of the best in Europe as early as 1880 . When the company founder died in 1910, 10 million bottles were exported abroad every year.
The First World War and the collapse of the monarchy brought hard times for the company as the traditional sales market collapsed. The turmoil of the Second World War and the defeat of Czechoslovakia in 1939 by the National Socialists made business even more difficult for the company, but Mattoni was able to maintain his position.
From 1942 to 1944, the Krondorf-Sauerbrunn satellite camp was housed in a villa owned by Heinrich Mattoni AG .
In 1944, the SS Economic and Administrative Main Office , Working Group W (Economic Enterprises), Office W III (Food Companies) acquired the shares in Heinrich Mattoni AG, which became the property of the SS.
After the end of the Second World War, the company was run by the state-owned company Západočeská zřídla based in Karlovy Vary . After 1989 this was converted into the joint stock company Karlovarské minerálni vody (Czech for Karlovy Vary mineral water ), which is now the largest mineral water company in the Czech Republic. A modern bottling plant was built in the late 1980s and modernized in the 1990s. Mattoni water is also sold in various flavor additives.
