Martin Cibák (born May 17, 1980 in Liptovský Mikuláš , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Czech extraliga promoted HC Olomouc since September 2014 .

Career

Martin Cibák began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of the MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Slovakian Extra League in the 1997/98 season , where he scored six points in 33 games in his rookie year , including two Goals, scored. He was then selected in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft in the ninth round as a total of 252nd player from the Tampa Bay Lightning .

Initially, however, the attacker played for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Canadian top junior division Western Hockey League for two years , as well as a season for the Detroit Vipers from the International Hockey League , before he played for the Lightning in the NHL from 2001 to 2006 the ice. where he mainly ran up until 2003 for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Springfield Falcons . In the 2003/04 season , Cibák won the prestigious Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning , scoring ten points, including two goals, in a total of 69 games. During the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , Cibák returned to Europe, where he was on the ice for his home club MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš and HC Košice in Slovakia, as well as HC Plzeň in the Czech extra league . From 2006 to 2009 the Slovak was under contract in the Swedish Elitserien . After he was initially active in the 2006/07 season for Frölunda HC , he played the following two seasons for their league rivals Södertälje SK . For the 2009/10 season Cibák received a contract with HK Spartak Moscow from the Continental Hockey League .

At the end of September 2010, Cibák's contract with Spartak was terminated and the latter switched to Severstal Tscherepowez within the KHL . In May 2011 he was obliged by Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk and was one of the top performers there in the following years. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he was also selected as team captain, before he was given to HK Witjas in December 2013 in exchange for a right to vote for the 2014 KHL Junior Draft .

Since September 2014, Cibák has been under contract with the Czech extraliga promoted HC Olomouc .

International

For Slovakia , Cibák took part in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1999 and 2000 . He was also part of the Slovak squad at the 2006 World Cup and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey .
