János Vas ( Hungarian Vas János ; born January 29, 1984 in Dunaújváros ) is a Hungarian ice hockey player who has been under contract with DVTK Jegesmedvék since 2017 and has been playing with the club in the Slovakian extra league since 2018 . His older brother, Marton, was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

János Vas began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with Dunaferr SE Dunaújváros , for whom he made his debut in the Hungarian Ice Hockey League in the 1999/2000 season . In his rookie year , the attacker and his team won the championship and trophy double . He then moved to the junior division of the Swedish first division team Malmö Redhawks , for which he was also used in 20 games of the Eliterien from 2002 to 2004 . During this time, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the second round as a total of 32nd player by the Dallas Stars . During his time in Malmö, he also played on loan for IF Troja-Ljungby in HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, and the third division club IK Pantern . For the 2004/05 season he joined the Swedish second division team Halmstad Hammers .

Although the Hungarian played from 2005 to 2008 for Dallas' farm teams , the Iowa Stars from the American Hockey League and the Idaho Steelheads from the ECHL , he was never used by Dallas in the National Hockey League . After three years in North America, Vas returned to Europe for the 2008/09 season , where he received a contract with Brynäs IF from the Swedish Elitserien. The 2009/10 season he spent in his home country with Alba Volán Székesfehérvár , for which he played in the Austrian ice hockey league , while he played in the playoffs for Alba Volán in the Hungarian league and won the championship with his team. In the 2010/11 season, the Hungarian played for the Swedish second division club Tingsryds AIF . For the 2011/12 season he returned to his ex-club IF Troja-Ljungby from HockeyAllsvenskan. He then moved to the Ducs de Dijon from the French Ligue Magnus . In 2013 he moved to the Dragons de Rouen within the league , with whom he won the league cup. But he only stayed there for one season, as he moved to the Czech Republic in the summer of 2014, where he was on the ice at HC Slavia Prague in the Extraliga . With the capital club he had to accept relegation in 2015 and from then on played in the second-class first division . Although the team was able to immediately reach the qualifying round for the extra league in 2016, they failed there because of the previous extra league clubs HC Vera Litvínov and HC Energie Karlovy Vary . In 2016 he returned to Hungary, where he played again for Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian ice hockey league. He has been under contract with the DVTK Jegesmedvék since 2017 . After a year in the multinational MOL league , he is now playing with the club in the Slovak extra league .
