After the end of last year's championship, the Slovak runner-up HC Nové Zámky withdrew from the league because their national ice hockey association had not given any further approval to participate. A new farm team from the EBEL Club Alba Volán Székesfehérvár and MAC Budapest , another team from the Hungarian capital, were taking part in a professional competition with a fighting team for the first time; Until then, the club had only been active in the youth field.
The two Romanian participants were also obliged by their ice hockey association to take part in the national championship after there had been disagreements between the two organizing associations in the summer.
With Szőke Álmos, a new league president was also elected in summer 2015.
A basic round was played with three rounds back and forth. The two first-placed teams were then automatically qualified for the semi-finals, the teams in ranks three to six played out the other two participants in the quarter-finals (third place against sixth and fourth against five). Six transfer card players were allowed for the Hungarian teams, eight for the Romanian participants due to the double burden, whereby naturalizations during the current championship had no effect.
The overtime followed last year's AHL regulations with a total duration of a maximum of seven minutes, with the strength of both teams being reduced from four to three field players in the first break after the three-minute mark.
