With the Ice Tigers Nové Zámky , a team from Slovakia was accepted into the league for the first time . The team from Nové Zámky had already been a cooperation partner of the Budapest Stars in previous years .

The people in charge of the Hungarian club Sapa Fehérvár AV19 decided not to register their farm team, ie their second team, in the MOL league because of their commitments in the Erste Bank Young Stars League . As the status of the ice hockey rangers from Steaua Bucharest was uncertain due to political movements in Romania, participation was canceled because it could not be guaranteed that the clubs would play through the entire season.

Other candidates for participation were HK 38 Dubnica from Slovakia and HK Partizan Belgrade from Serbia. The Belgraders had to solve problems in the whole club, which did not allow adequate preparation for the season, while the Slovaks did not get the necessary permission to participate from the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation .

Basic round

A four-fold round trip was played, which resulted in a total of 48 games for each team.
