The ESC Planegg is a German women's ice hockey club from Planegg in the Würmtal near Munich , which plays in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga . The club used to take part in the supranational Elite Women's Hockey League .
Since there is no artificial ice stadium in Planegg, the team is switching to external training or playing venues, especially the Grafing ice rink and the Hacker-Pschorr Arena in Bad Tölz .
history
The ESC Planegg was founded in 1991 and initially took part in the Bavarian regional league. In 1994 the team became Bavarian champions in a syndicate with ERSC Ottobrunn and was promoted to the women's ice hockey Bundesliga , to which the club still belongs to this day. After the promotion, however, the syndicate was dissolved and the ESC Planegg continued the game operation alone, but the second team played together with the ERSC Ottobrunn in both the 1994/95 and 1998/99 seasons. In the seasons 1996/97 and 1997/98, the second team acted as SG Planegg / Munich to enable more players to participate in the game.
After the Bundesliga team missed qualification for the final round in the 2004/05 season , they took part in the relegation round. Within this round the qualification for the final of the German Cup succeeded . There the team lost to the Grefrather EC Lady Panthers in the penalty shootout , but the game at the “Green Table” was rated 5-0 for Planegg because the GEC fell below the minimum number of players.
In the 2005/06 season the qualification for the intermediate round succeeded again, where the team qualified fourth for the final tournament. There the ESC lost in the final against the team of the OSC Berlin and became runner-up. In the 2006/07 season , the German champions were no longer determined in a cup tournament for the first time. In the end, the ESC Planegg reached second place in the table and was runner-up again. In the newly introduced DEB Cup tournament, the ESC was defeated in the final to the EC Bergkamen in the penalty shootout and was again able to achieve second place.
In the 2007/08 season , the club won the German championship for the first time without losing points and 13 points ahead of second-placed OSC Berlin. In the DEB Cup, however, the penguins lost to the OSC just 3: 4 in the preliminary round and won the game for third place 7: 0 against EC Bergkamen. In the 2008/09 season , the ESC Planegg started as German champion in the IIHF European Women Champions Cup , but failed already in the preliminary round . In addition, the team took part for the first time in the European Elite Women's Hockey League , which was played parallel to Bundesliga matches , and came in third behind HC Slavia Prague and OSC Berlin.
In the 2009/10 season , ESC Planegg took part in the EWHL alongside the Bundesliga, this time as the only German representative, and won it as the first German representative before The Ravens Salzburg .
The ESCP finished the main round of the 2019/20 Bundesliga in first place and reached the play-off final against ECDC Memmingen thanks to the success in the semifinals over the Eisbären Juniors Berlin . After the first final game on March 7, 2020 (ECDC Memmingen vs. ESC Planegg 2: 4), the German Ice Hockey Federation stopped playing in all leagues on March 11, 2020 in order to contain the coronavirus epidemic.
