Relegation to the women's ice hockey Bundesliga 1996/97
For the relegation, Eintracht Braunschweig qualified as group first of the Regionalliga Nord-Ost, the EV Herne and the ESC Essen from the NRW-Liga and the VERC Lauterbach as second place in the Hessen-Liga, due to the waiver of the first place ESC from Viernheim . In the relegation games, the teams of the Bundesliga were able to prevail against the promotion aspirants, so that there were no changes in the northern group. In the southern group, EHC Memmingen rose again from the Bayernliga and the Schwenninger ERC relegated, and EV Füssen also decided not to start in the Bundesliga.
