The 2019/20 season was the 31st edition of the women's ice hockey Bundesliga in Germany . The league was carried out by the German Ice Hockey Federation . The main round began with its first day of play on September 28, 2019 and ended on February 16, 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , all ice hockey leagues in Germany were stopped prematurely on March 11, 2020 for the 2019/20 season and no champions were chosen.

mode

As in the previous season, the Bundesliga clubs initially play a double round . The previous three-point rule was retained, so that if you win in regular time, the winner receives three points and the loser receives no point at all. In the event of a tie after regular time, both teams will each receive one point. The winner of the subsequent extra time or the penalty shootout receives an additional point.

Then play-offs with semi-finals and finals were played out for the teams in places 1 to 4 to determine the champions.

Since in the 2019/20 season only 7 teams took part in the women's Bundesliga at the beginning of the season, the teams in places 5 to 7 should play a "round robin round" as a single round.

With the withdrawal of the Düsseldorfer EG during the season, this mode was changed and the last two players play a placement round as a double round.

Participating teams

Clubs of the women's ice hockey Bundesliga for the 2019/20 season

The league consisted of seven teams from the preseason . The Hanover Indians were defeated in the play-downs against Düsseldorf in the preseason and were relegated from the Bundesliga. The newcomer Crocodiles Hamburg , on the other hand, withdrew his application shortly before the start of the season.

Of the seven participants, Planegg, Ingolstadt and Memmingen also played in the EWHL Super Cup 2019 . The first of these teams' first DFEL games in the main round also counted for the EWHL Super Cup.

In December 2019, the Düsseldorfer EG withdrew their women's team because they could not find a replacement after the resignation of the coach in October 2019.
