Ryōtarō Meshino ( Japanese 食野 亮 太郎 , Meshino Ryōtarō ; born June 18, 1998 in Izumisano , Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese football player . He has been under contract with Manchester City since August 2019 .

Career

Ryōtarō Meshino began his career with smaller clubs in Osaka. Most recently he was in the youth of Gamba Osaka until 2018 . At the age of 17 he received his first professional contract. For the U23 team of the club he was active in the J3 League , the third highest soccer league in Japan. In 2018, Meshino also made his first-team debut in the J1 League . In the following year and a half he came to his missions for both teams.

In August 2019, the English club Manchester City signed him . The 21-year-old playmaker was loaned out to Heart of Midlothian immediately after joining Scotland . He was the first Japanese in the 145-year history of the Hearts club.

National team

With the Japanese U-23 national team , Meshino took part in the Asian Championship for this age group in Thailand in 2020 .
