The EKU Mannheim is a sports club from Mannheim with the sports hockey and karate .

The exact name of the association is EKU Mannheim eV (unspr. Name Eichenkreuz Union Mannheim Käfertal eV )

history

The EKU was founded in 1972 and initially only included the sports of handball, karate and tennis. Ice hockey, inline hockey, taekwondo and table tennis were added later. The handball, inline hockey, table tennis and Taekwon-Do departments are no longer active.

Ice Hockey Department

In 1995 the ice hockey department was founded when the senior ice hockey team of the Mad Dogs Mannheim , whose name became the department name, joined the EKU . In 1997, a junior department was founded as a sub-department and began to participate in gaming.

In 2002, the Kurpfalz Girlies team - an all-girl team - was founded as a youth development project. In 2003, the Viernheim ESC stopped playing due to problems with the ice rink there and recommended that its members transfer to the Mad Dogs . The women's team , which had been in play since 1993/94 , continued with the EKU as the Kurpfalz-Ladies in the 2003/04 season and was promoted to the women's ice hockey Bundesliga as champions of the second-rate Baden-Württemberg state league , where the Team played from 2004 to 2011. The newly formed team has been playing in the Bundesliga again since 2014 under the name Maddogs Mannheim .

In the 2018/19 season, the Mad Dogs team finished sixth and secured relegation in the first play-down round.

Current

In 2017/18, the EKU's ice hockey department will have the first men's team in the fourth-class regional league South-West and the 1b in the fifth-class Baden-Württemberg regional league. The first women's team plays in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga , the 1b in the women's league Baden-Württemberg. There are youth teams in all age groups from youth to mini as well as a girls team.
