Christian Künast (born March 7, 1971 in Landshut ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper and has been the national coach of the German women's ice hockey team since 2019 .
Career
Christian Künast began his professional career in 1989 at EV Landshut and has since been active in the top German division. Here he came as second goalkeeper behind Bernhard Englbrecht and Petr Bříza until 1995 but only to a few missions and in 1995 moved to the Kaufbeurer Adlers , where he recommended himself for the national team.
In 1997 he moved to Mannheim again to the position of substitute goalkeeper, this time behind Mike Rosati , but won his first championship with the team . After winning the title, Künast returned to Landshut in 1998 and moved with the DEL team first to Munich and later to Hamburg . His second championship followed in Munich in 2000.
Christian Künast played from the DEL - 2004/05 season for Hannover Scorpions and ended his active career ahead of the 2007/08 season with the Scorpions, where he the post of assistant coach of two years' Hans Zach held.
Künast took part in two World Championships for Germany, in 1996 and 2001. In 2001 he was even number 1 in the German selection. At the Olympic Games in 2002 he was also part of the squad and made 2 games.
From November 30, 2011 until their relegation in spring 2013, he was the head coach of the Hanover Indians from the 2nd Bundesliga. From August 2013 to July 2015 he was the head coach of the youth teams at EHC Straubing . He then coached the men's U20 national team until the end of 2018. Since January 1, 2019, he has been coaching the German women's ice hockey team .
