The Nations Cup (also meco nations cup , MLP Nations Cup , Air Canada Cup ) is a year in Germany instead-find woman ice hockey tournament at which teams participate in different countries. The tournament is hosted by the German Ice Hockey Federation .
With six participating teams, the competition has been the largest national tournament in women's ice hockey since 2007 after the Olympic ice hockey tournament and the world championship . 2006–2010 was the venue in Ravensburg .
history
The tournament as Air Canada Cup in 2003, as the next host was held for the first time Germany to Switzerland , Finland and Canada took part. In 2007 the number of teams was increased from four to six teams, and since then the preliminary round has been played in two groups of three. On January 4, 2008, Air Canada announced that it would withdraw from sponsorship after five years . After the financial sales organization MLP took over the sponsorship, the “Air Canada Cup” was renamed “MLP Nations Cup” . The events in 2012 and 2013 were sponsored by meco IT AG , since 2013 the tournament has been held without a name sponsor.
Previous events
2003
The first Air Canada Cup was held in 2003 in the Preussag Arena in Hanover and in the cities of Salzgitter and Braunlage . In addition to hosts Germany , Switzerland , Finland and Canada took part in the competition.

The Air Canada Cup 2004 took place from February 5th to 7th, 2004 in the Hacker-Pschorr Arena in Bad Tölz and the Olympic Ice Sports Center in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . Besides host again took Germany to Switzerland , Finland and Canada in the competition, the last two, however, with an U22 selection.

The Air Canada Cup 2007 was held again from January 3 to 7, 2007 in the Ravensburg ice rink . For the first time, the tournament was played with six instead of four teams, which meant that instead of the previous game mode, a preliminary round with two groups of three and a final round were held. In addition to hosts Germany , Switzerland , a U20 team from Finland , the U22 team from Canada , Japan and Russia took part in the competition.

The meco nations cup 2012 was held from January 3rd to 8th 2012 at several locations - Füssen , Lindau , Miesbach , Peißenberg and Sonthofen - most of the games took place in Füssen. The tournament was played on five days in the mode of everyone against everyone .
The Swedish national team secured the tournament win with 5 wins in 5 games. A total of 2,752 viewers saw the 15 games of the tournament, which corresponds to an average of 183 visitors.
