The Gigantium is a multifunctional arena in the Danish city of Aalborg in the Nordjylland region .
history
The arena was opened in October 1999 and renovated in 2003. In 2007 the Isarena was added to the sports complex, which is used for the home games of the ice hockey club Aalborg Pirates from the Danish Metal Ligaen . It is also the home of the handball clubs AaB Håndbold ( Håndboldligaen ) and Aalborg DH ( Damehåndboldligaen ). The sports complex also has an ice rink for training purposes, a swimming pool (2011) and an athletics hall (2014). Concerts are also regularly held in the arena . In 2006 and 2010, the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix was held here. The gigantium was one of the venues for the 2010 European Women's Handball Championship and the 2014 European Handball Championship .
On July 5, 2017, a fire broke out on an outside wall of the hall. An employee probably has the fire in Unkrautvernichten triggered a Abflammgerät. After initial fears, the damage in the Gigantium turned out to be less severe. It is hoped that the handball league and Champions League games scheduled from September 2017 can take place.
