course

The Danish handball league consists of 14 teams, each of which has to play 26 games in the regular season. By 2006, the eight best teams were then divided into two groups of four teams each. Nos. 1 and 2 from the regular season then started the group games with two points, Nos. 3 and 4 started with one point, while the 5th to 8th started without points. After the six games, the two group winners played the champions, while the runner-up played for the bronze medal. Both the final and the game for third place were played as the "Best of 3" series.

Starting with the 2007/2008 season, the four best teams of the regular season will go into the playoffs and play the semi-finals and the final. Semi-finals and the final will be played as the "best of 3" series.

The lowest placed team of the regular season rises from the 1st division and their champions rises to the first handbold league. The teams that took 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th place together with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th from the 1st division are divided into two groups of four teams each. The group winners and the runners-up are qualified for the first division in the next season. The 3rd of both groups play the last free place in the 1st league in up to three matches.
