Håndboldligaen 2008/09

The Håndboldligaen 2008/09 (officially: CBB Mobil Ligaen ) was the 73rd season of the highest league in Danish men's handball. FCK Håndbold started as the defending champion , who also won the preliminary round in the 2008/09 season and ended up being runner-up. Champion was KIF Kolding , the only relegated of the season was Ajax København.

Regular season

The main round of the season was about qualifying for the championship round, for which the first eight teams qualified. The teams in ninth to thirteenth had to participate in the relegation round, while the last-placed, Ajax København, had to relegate. The season opened on September 6, 2008.

Championship round

The teams in the first eight places were divided into two groups. The teams in first to fourth place are awarded additional points that they can take with them into the round. The winners of both groups met in three games to determine the Danish champions. The two runners-up played against each other for third place, which was ultimately won by Holstebro.

Thus, despite the fact that FCK Håndbold was allowed to play the last game in its own hall, KIF Kolding became Danish handball champions and took part in the EHF Champions League 2009/10 together with FCK Håndbold.

Relegation relegation

In the relegation games, the five participants from the first division were all able to secure the five free places for the Håndboldligaen 2009/10 . While Århus GF, Nordsjælland Håndbold, Fredericia HK and Mors Thy Håndbold already prevailed in the group stage, TMS Ringsted was only able to secure relegation games against HC Midtjylland.
