Virum-Sorgefri HK

Virum-Sorgenfri HK ( Virum-Sorgenfri Håndboldklub ) was a Danish handball club from Virum , a suburb of Kongens Lyngby , about 10 km north of Copenhagen .

Club history

The club was founded in 1941 under the name Virum Gymnastikforening . But after handball gained more and more weight in the club, the club was first renamed Virum Håndboldklub and later in Virum-Sorgenfri Håndboldklub .

The club had its most successful period in the 1990s. In the 2001/02 season Virum-Sorgenfri HK got serious financial problems when the municipality Lyngby-Taarbæk could not keep the promised sponsorship . As a result, the club was unable to pay salaries to players and coaches in the spring of 2002 and had to file for bankruptcy. After the association was dissolved, the successor association Virum Sorgenfri Håndboldklub af 2002 was founded.
