Virum is a suburb of the Danish capital Copenhagen with 14,170 inhabitants.

The place belongs to the municipality Lyngby-Taarbæk municipality and is bordered by Furesøen and Kongevejen . The Copenhagen S-Bahn stops at Virum station, about 18 kilometers from the center of the capital. Virum was first mentioned in a letter from the Pope in 1186. The name "Virum" is derived from the word "Vigirum", which means "open space that is easy to defend". Frederiksdal Castle was built in Virum in 1744 - as a summer residence for the Danish Foreign Minister Johan Sigismund Schulin .

Sports

The Virum Stadium is home to the Virum-Sorgenfri Boldklub football club .

In the Virumhallerne u. a. Denmark's most successful table tennis team play their home games, Virum-Sorgenfri Bordtennis Klub .
